I have not used blogs in the past because the students were not allowed to access the internet very often in the classroom. As I understand students are allowed more access to internet in some schools now.
I have imagined using a blog in a homework kind of capacity. I would post current events ask the students to respond to the science related facts, or connect the event to some science concept, or just respond with opinion. I could imagine how powerful the tool would be for students to gain and practice their voice. Many times students are not comfortable in a discussion in class or in person but the digital/internet format may allow for expression. Also if it is done at home parents could also get involved.
I started a blog about 2 years ago to gain confidence in the use as well as a processing tool for me. It's like a journal. I like to see the change in my ideas and voice as well.
